Sir Owen, the Go Bloodstock team and our partners are excited to announce that leading Victorian jockey Craig Williams has been booked to ride HOO YA MAL in the Melbourne Cup on November 1st. No stranger to success on the biggest stage of them all – Craig Williams won the Melbourne Cup on VOW AND DECLARE in 2019 and looks to repeat the feat here with our exciting 3yo colt.
This renews the successful partnership Sir Owen and Craig have nurtured over the years that includes one of the crowning moments for Sir Owen’s Champion racehorse CRITERION in winning the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick. More recently, Craig won on LADY OF LUXURY (a daughter of CRITERION) in the Go Bloodstock silks over the Magic Millions carnival earlier this year and was also the winning jockey on CRITERION’s sister MY DELIGHT at Caulfield in January.
It became clear in discussion with Sir Owen, Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott that Craig was the collective #1 pick for HOO YA MAL and we are delighted to secure his services. Sir Owen has placed in the Melbourne Cup on several occasions (CRITERION & SECOND EMPIRE on Sir Owen’s first involvement in the industry) and we could not be more excited as HOO YA MAL and Craig Williams set out to deliver Sir Owen and partners the Melbourne Cup we desire.
We can also report HOO YA MAL is thriving in quarantine and set to arrive in Melbourne early net week. Gai is already in Melbourne to oversee his preparation and we cannot wait to see HOO YA MAL perform not only over this year’s carnival but in Australia for many seasons to come.
Exciting Times. The Spring Carnival is in full swing.
