Our sensational five-year-old entire Sir Delius cemented his status as the premier weight-for-age middle-distance horse in the country with a phenomenal, dominant victory in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on April 11th.
Exhibiting the ultimate blend of European stamina and trademark Tulloch Lodge grit, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained son of Frankel completely broke the hearts of his rivals. Ridden aggressively and masterfully by jockey Craig Williams to ensure a true staying test, Sir Delius took the lead turning for home and relentlessly sustained his speed to score a comprehensive two-and-a-quarter-length victory over Lindermann and the previously unbeaten favourite Autumn Glow.
Co-trainer Adrian Bott was thrilled to see the horse achieve well-deserved Group 1 redemption after being cruelly denied a spring campaign: “This is the one that counted. He is a once-in-a-lifetime horse, and to win a bonafide Australian major like this at his peak is incredibly special.”
